Let's Play Bowls- Lincolnshire

East Lindsey bowled over by demand for inclusive sessions

Photo showing older people in Lincolnshire bowlingActive Lincolnshire introduced the Let’s Play Bowls programme to day centres in East Lindsey as part of the GOGA project.

It’s great to see so many people enjoying a new sport. Lots of the day centres and nursing homes who have used the equipment wouldn’t have access to it without this programme, and it’s a great feeling to allow them to have the opportunity to try something new and get active at the same time.

Angus Drew, Project Delivery Officer at Active Lincolnshire

The bowls sessions are completely inclusive and have been adapted to include everyone, regardless of their age or ability or even the setting they’re playing in.

Each venue co-ordinator is taught the basics by an Active Lincolnshire instructor and are then left with an activity pack and the equipment for eight weeks.

Thank you for allowing the clients of the Skegness Day Centre the opportunity to loan of the bowls equipment and work with Active Lincolnshire. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the new activity and they all became very good and competitive. Every session we held went very well and as you can see from the full registers, the sessions were very popular.

Mandy Hayes, Manager at Skegness Day Centre

After the eight week programme is complete, players are given details of their nearest club and advice on where and how to source their own equipment so they can continue playing for years to come.
